My name is Bandit, I'm a drummer in a couple of bands and I always wear a bandit mask and
bandana around my neck, like the lone ranger, I guess I just liked the image it gave. Number 7
because it's the day I was born on and it's lucky.
Which position do you play?
I think I'm more drawn to being a blocker on the outside line but I will play any position that coach
wants me to.
When did you join Mansfield Roller Derby?
My derby faves are Raw Heidi and Stef Mainey from London Roller Girls. Mainey because she is
quality, a real powerhouse and Raw Heidi because she is an awesome blocker and she wears a bandanna too.
Did you play any sports before Roller Derby?
Sport wise all individual; tennis, badminton and golf. Derby is my first team sport.
You started out as a fan, made your way up to head NSO and now you're a rookie skater, that's
quite a journey! what was it that made you want to get involved with the league? What has it
been like for you?
What a journey indeed! I got into it via friends, did my NSO groundwork (which is great for
learning rules) then decided to take the plunge and put skates on. Seeing the skaters have so
much fun week in week out swung it for me
You've just been through the fresh meat program tell us a little about your fresh meat experience:
The freshie program at Mansfield Roller Derby is really well structured, being a complete novice
and not being able to stand up on skates 4 months ago to now being able to say "yeah i can
skate" is a real buzz
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about getting involved in Roller Derby?
Just find your local team and sign up. The focus and positivity that skating gives is so rewarding,
the social life is great too!
Any final words?
You're never lost, its always an adventure.
