Bette joined Mansfield Roller Derby as Fresh Meat in Autumn 2013. After months of hard work and determination, she graduated from the Fresh Meat program to become a Rookie skater. She has now worked her way on to the Misfits team, and is shaking off her Rookie status with her fierce blocking and great on-track skills.
As well as skating with the Misfits, Bette is now helping the next generation of skaters as Fresh Meat Coordinator.
We grabbed a few minutes of Bette's time to ask her some questions...
Which position do you play? I play all positions, I love blocking on that outside line though
When did you join Mansfield Roller Derby? I joined in Sept. 2013 How did you first get involved with Roller Derby, and Mansfield Roller Derby? I'd heard bits about it through Cherry, Googled the Mansfield roller derby team and got in touch through the website
Did you play any sports before Roller Derby? Nope, never! I hate sport *laughs*
You recently graduated from Fresh Meat to Rookie, what is your best memory of Fresh Meat? Graduating and getting those skills ticked off! Hard work pays off.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about playing Roller Derby? Try it. It could quite possibly be the best thing you ever do!
Any final words? A massive thanks to the big 4 for this, it made my heart smile a lot! I've thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck in and shall continue to do so wherever I can. Lean! Mean! Purple and green! I love Misfits
