Now she is a warrior on track and one fearsome blocker that even our best jammers struggle to get past! Off skates she is a word warrior as well, blogging about her passions and educating her teammates on a more ethical lifestyle.
Which position do you play? I enjoy being a blocker, although I do enjoy the odd bit of jamming here and there.
When did you join Mansfield Roller Derby? I joined September last year, three weeks late into the fresh meat programme. I’ve been skating with the misfits for about nine months now.
Did you play any sports before Roller Derby? I did kickboxing before roller derby – it’s where my love of contact sports started.
You recently became head of PR, what made you choose to step into this role? I took Language and Literature at University, so that kind of fits into the role a little bit. I really enjoy writing and I get to do little pieces for the website, which I really enjoy. I also just wanted to get more involved with the team and help out any way I could.
Who are your derby heroes? I recently saw the Gotham v. Philly bout and was pretty amazed at V-Diva. I enjoy watching teams like Rat City and Denver play too, and of course, LRG.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about playing Roller Derby? Do it. Don’t think about it, just do it. Roller derby is phenomenal sport that has changed my life in a massive way. It is an incredibly positive and supportive environment to be in, and a great way to meet awesome people.
Any final words? Be kind to bees! And don’t buy peanut butter with palm oil in it.
